Joint meeting of the Directors of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences with the Director General of Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ministers of Iran in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
In order to expand international cooperation on Wednesday morning, dated September 20, 2023, a meeting with the Director General of Economic Affairs of Foreign Ministry and ministers of Iran in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan was held.
At the beginning of this meeting Dr. Tohidloo expressed his satisfaction with the expansion of academic relations of the University with the ambassadors of the neighboring countries and suggested: “internationalization is one of the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences’ significant priorities. In this field many measures have been done but all the attempts are focused on developing international relations especially with neighboring countries.”
He also mentioned the medical- training background and activities of the University at province level and stated: “the provision of the Department of International Affairs in relation with the neighboring countries is beyond the admission of under graduate and PhD students, the other fields of cooperation including; specialty and sub-specialty students, short-term courses, and observation courses are also improving.
in admission of international students announced: “Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences is one of our prestigious universities in the country. It possesses an international brand, and obtains a good rank in the international ranking systems. This university, by employing professors and faculty members who have had a brilliant history of participation in important international events, has high potential in academic fields. Moreover, this university, in comparison with the other universities in the field of internationalization, students’ acceptance and health tourism, has a high capacity. This university, in the field of making the direction of immigration of students reverse and persuading them to continue their studies at this university, especially attracting the Indian students, worked successfully and got brilliant results.
While explaining the cooperation capacities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the field of internationalization of the University, he said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has close relations with other countries, especially neighboring countries. In the first phase, we are examining the capacities and the fields that could have political and social prestige for us in addition to gaining currency. Our country has a high status in the scientific domain. Besides, our white army (medical and paramedical staff) is one of the spheres in which we can act splendidly and introduce ourselves as a successful symbol in public opinion. This white army directly pointed to our skillful physicians, specialists, hospitals, treatment staff, who are passionate and hardworking and can be pioneers in the international and diplomatic fields. Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences has an eminent position in this field. We continue these relations and will see the results of them in the near future.
Dr. Eskandari, Ambassador in Uzbekistan, expressed his contentment of facilities and services provided by Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and said: “Certainly, the high-quality facilities of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences can provide suitable conditions for international partnerships, especially in Central Asia and the Caucasus. Accepting the work of foreign students to maintain the scientific-educational quality, holding skill-oriented courses, group work, joint projects, health tourism and hospital admission are among the measures that can be invested in. Considering the geographical, economic, and social conditions of Uzbekistan, we will try to match Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences with our counterparts from Uzbekistan and start a suitable partnership in the fields mentioned earlier.”
Dr. Roozbahani, Ambassador of Iran in Uzbekistan, while referring to the potential of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, said: “according to the visits made to the Headquarter, and the School of Medicine and Dentistry, we are now aware of the university's capacities in providing optimal medical-health services which are more than before. In addition to high-quality services, profiting from skilled professors, faculty members, and staff, almost all the basic equipment to encourage international students to become members of this academic center is provided.”
He referred to the President’s words which put emphasis on the importance of diplomatic expansion of health, in particular with neighboring countries, and declared: “the neighboring countries, including northern countries, the former Soviet Union, and the Arabic states of the Persian Gulf, are considered good opportunities in the field of health tourism, and the necessary preparation to contact with patients of target countries includes, communication skill in Russian and Arabic languages in hospitals which will lead to providing better services to our clients.”
At the end of his speech, he said: As the new ambassador, I will definitely use all my jurisdiction to facilitate visa affairs and introduce products and services, both at the university and national level, so that the government and people of Turkmenistan can benefit our services in Iran.
In this meeting Dr. Tohidloo, Executive Vice-Chancellor of the International Affairs, Dr. Chegini, Director General of Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Eskandari, the Iranian Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Dr. Rozbahani, the Iranian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Dr. Sorena Vahabi, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and other directors of the Department of International Affairs were present.
